How to use the shifter on the canter truck

This truck has a shifter. There are 2 modes: Automatic and manual. Automatic mode is the mode most people will choose to use. In manual mode you will need to shift. There is no clutch. Shifting is done by tapping the shifter up and down. Manual mode is mainly used by professional commercial drivers.

An orange light will appear and disappear in the upper left-hand side of the dashboard, above the speedometer as you drive. This is normal. The light comes on to let you know the exhaust brake is working. The exhaust brake helps to slow the truck down without riding the brakes. For more detailed info, please watch the video.

DEF (Diesel Emissions Fluid) is a special liquid that helps clean pollutants. If you rent a diesel box truck from us that needs it, please purchase some from us or a local retailer if your trip will be 300 miles or more. Its not expensive.DEF goes in a special tank. DO NOT PUT DIESEL FUEL IN THE DEF TANK. IT WILL MESS UP THE TRUCK! Check the level when you refuel. Top off if needed.

DPF and Regen process

If the solid “DPF” light for the regen comes on, let it run! Don’t panic! Leave the truck running. You can drive it while its going. Once the light goes off, the truck can be turned off if you were waiting. This is the process 99% of the time.

Never ignore a flashing “DPF” light. If its not pulled over and put into park within the timeline, the truck can malfunction! You have about 30 minutes to pull over.

Most regens are complete within 20 minutes!
